[TECH] What is a Mesh network?

It is a network laid out in a mesh topology where the nodes also re-transmit data from other nodes, whereby the need for a direct access point is removed or reduced to a single gateway. The advantage of a mesh network is that it is scalable (it is very easy to add a new node) and robust (the network will continue to operate even if one node goes down). The drawback is that the individual nodes needs to be complex to handle data from many other nodes, has a relatively high latency that can change if nodes are added or removed, and due to the complexity will use more power. Radiocrafts provide Tinymesh and ZigBee/6LoWPAN modules.
