Tinymesh™ Technology Overview

Powerful Multi-Hop Mesh Networks & Cloud Service

Tinymesh™ is a very compact, multi-hop, mesh protocol for bi-directional wireless communication. Tinymesh™ is designed for data acquisition applications that need to transport short, messages, such as control commands, instructions, conditional responses, metered data, measurements, and other types of information. Tinymesh™ excels in applications that have most data traffic up to the gateway and limited non time-critical data down from the gateway and/or between nodes.

Tinymesh™ Components

Tinymesh™ Mesh Networks may consist of large numbers of Tinymesh™-enabled devices or nodes where a node is one of three types: Gateway, Router, or End Node. The RF traffic between the Tinymesh™ enabled devices follows a tree-type topology, where data transfer is up or down in the tree structure.

The Gateway is the master of the network and sits on top of the tree. Routers are the networking connections that help the Gateway manage the traffic within the network. Routers forward traffic to and from the Gateway and/or other Routers and/or End Nodes. The End Nodes connect to a Router; they sit at the end of the network and cannot forward traffic further down in the tree.

A network may be comprised of thousands of Tinymesh™ enabled devices. There may be several Gateway nodes within a network for redundancy and automatic workload sharing.

Tinymesh™ Networks are Self-Forming

A Tinymesh™ Mesh Network is self-forming, created  when a Gateway starts inviting Routers within RF range to join in the network. A Router joins the network after verifying the invitation, and it immediately starts inviting new nodes to join. Within seconds of powering up the Gateway, a large network may be created.

Tinymesh™ Networks are Self-Healing

A Tinymesh™ Mesh Network is self-healing: the communication path with the highest link quality and least number of hops to the recipient always gets priority. In a changing environment with changing link quality, the network dynamically adapts to the optimum route.
