[RC232] The receive LED on the eval kit was flashing but no data sent to the PC. Does this indicate a signal was detected but failed on CRC ?

Yes, the RX LED will turn on as soon as synch detect is done. But if a CRC error is detected, the LED is turned off and the messages is discarded.
