I am afraid, there is no way to get a feedback from the module about the success of X command in RC232. The best way to ensure that _after_ X command the device is in normal mode is to guarantee that _before_ the X command the device was in config mode. This can be controlled by the config pin: pull and release the config pin before you issue the X command.
