The RC232 and Tinymesh protocols share the same PHY (frequency and modulation) and to some extent the MAC layer (frame format). But the RC232 is a point-to-point/multipoint protocol (with a multihop feature), while Tinymesh is a mesh protocol (all nodes in the network is a repeater for other nodes).
