[ANT] “The problem is that that demo kit has a much longer range compared to the design. When we mount their homemade wire antenna onto the demo board the range is like 250 meter in-line with our needs. However on our own design it is only 50m range. Everything else work fine.  Is this an issue on the PCB or an Antenna matching/design issue? “

When the antenna is inside the box and might be partial close to plastic or the other PBA. The “other” things might detune the antenna. Try starting with a longer antenna wire and cut step by step to find optimal.
